Advance to Tabernas
The provincial council of ALMERIA, the Diputacion, sponsors Lumaso Fem Racing, the first all-female team in Andalusia.
Diputacion Vice-President Angel Escobar and Provincial Equality Advisor Carmen Belen Lopez visited the team last weekend at the start of the 12-hour endurance race on the Costa de Almeria circuit in Tabernas.
Lumaso Fem Racing would bring equality in sectors currently dominated by men and where women are in the minority, Escobar stressed.
“We are very proud of this team because it comes from Almeria and because it is the first female team to participate in this type of race,” he said. “And we also know that we are helping to raise awareness about equality and to tackle gender-based violence.”
The sponsorship is the result of a transversal project of the Equality, Sports and Tourism sections of the Diputacion, added Escobar, who thanked the Lumaso Fem Racing team for making women visible in the race.
“I am proud to be by your side so that the girls of today can see that there is real equality between men and women in Almeria,” said Carmen Belen Lopez.
Team manager Antonio Francisco Martin thanked the Diputacion for their support of the project as well as Emilia Fernandez, director of Lumaso Fem Racing, for ensuring that the team could grow and acquire its eight vehicles.
