EEG deploys CDI Alta, live captioning for AWS CDI
EEG Video announced the launch of CDI Alta. This latest update to EEG’s popular Alta IP video caption encoder extends its support for Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud Digital Interface (CDI), making it easier and more affordable than never for content creators to caption cloud-based live video production.
The introduction of CDI Alta follows on from EEG’s previous announcement of support for Amazon Web Services (AWS) Media Intelligence (AWS MI) solutions. As a result of this collaboration, EEG’s Alta and Lexi automatic captioning services were made available as part of AWS Media Intelligence (AWS MI) solutions.
AWS CDI is a network technology that enables independent software vendors (ISVs) and AWS partners to build reliable live video applications that can connect products and services within the AWS Cloud. AWS CDI enables users to transport high-quality uncompressed video to the AWS Cloud with high reliability and network latency as low as 8 milliseconds.
A cloud-based encoder for live IP video, Alta merges intelligent captioning and translation capabilities with cloud-based video workflows running in AWS CDI, as well as MPEG-TS and SMPTE 2110. Alta’s processing pipelines can be run in private VPCs (Virtual Private Clouds), or short-term full-service packages from EEG with the Alta Cloud Rentals program.
With Alta, broadcasters and content creators are connected 24/7 to thousands of iCap-certified captioners around the world. In a recent article, AWS noted, “By connecting IP workflows to the iCap network, Alta leverages AWS CDI to provide reliable, low-latency transport of uncompressed live video. CDI Alta users also have the option of captioning via EEG’s Lexi, now Lexi 2.0 with its 95% + accuracy driven by AI.
EEG’s CDI Alta dramatically streamlines real-time captioning for uncompressed live IP video, making closed captioning and closed captioning easy and cost effective for more content creators to be implemented in their productions. As demand increases for new content and improved experiences for audiences, content creators are often challenged to add captions to videos and live events on a large scale. Closed captioning is necessary to make the content accessible to a wider audience. Increasingly, it is also mandated to meet the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Viewers who benefit from closed captions include those who are hard of hearing, find themselves in an environment where audio is unavailable or inaudible, or prefer to supplement their video with text. Closed captioning in multiple languages is also good at localizing content in order to connect with a global audience.
EEG Video’s solutions serve customers in broadcast, streaming content, live and virtual event production, education, healthcare, government, and more.
“AWS CDI supports a new wave of cloud migration at the highest level of live video production,” says Bill McLaughlin, Technical Director of EEG. “Live captioning and ancillary data processing with CDI Alta makes captioning easier for CDI, providing a cloud-based supplement to EEG’s work with the uncompressed SMPTE-2110 standard for production of on-site channels. With CDI Alta, our iCap customers are perfectly positioned to maintain the quality and continuity of closed captioning, while improving reliability, scalability and affordability.
