Series A round nets startup Mangata Networks millions – Reuters

Mangata Networks closed a $33 million Series A funding round led by a US-based venture capital firm World Playground to pursue its mission to transform the way the world interacts with information.

This closure demonstrates the truly global nature of the organization with other major investors including Singapore-headquartered Temasek, KSAT from South Korea, Scottish company UK, Promoted Ventures of his Orbital Ventures Fund, and MetaVC Partners, also in the United States

Mangata represents a huge leap forward in telecommunications by innovating a game-changing architecture, using HEO (Highly elliptical orbit) and MOE (Mean Earth Orbit) satellite constellations, combined with the power of a terrestrial system of MangataEdge™ micro data centers, extending the cloud to the edge of the network close to users. This single core network will provide scalable B2G and B2B connectivity that is both affordable and accessible to anyone, anywhere on the planet.

Mangata is developing a patented architecture to connect micro-data centers via satellite, hosting cloud service platforms with the ability to extend connectivity directly to globally located 5G, IoT and Wi-Fi networks. The first community networks will be deployed from 2023, before the launch of its first satellites. This will allow customers to evaluate use cases and conduct business trials before service begins. In early 2023, the company will set up multiple trial networks around the world to begin testing and evaluating products before its first launch, starting with South Korea in Asia, 5G Open Innovation Lab in Seattle, and the 5G center in Scotland UK.

Mangata Networks will launch service for the entire northern hemisphere from 2024 with its initial launch of 8 HEO satellites. Subsequent launches of 24 MEO satellites will provide full global coverage and increased overall system capacity. This innovative architecture will significantly reduce the capital expenditure needed for this scale of global connectivity, while creating access to cloud technology, backhaul, IoT services and 5G coverage for end users around the world, enabling for the first times the exchange of knowledge on a real human scale.

“We want to change the world and that requires visionary investors and partners. We are really excited to announce this collaboration today. These investors, whose cross-continental representation reflects our own global mission, champion a new evolution of human connectivity. We believe we have a unique combination of coverage, technology, performance and cost that no one else can offer their customers.,” noted Brian Holz, CEO of Mangata Networks.

“Somewhere in the world awaits the answers to some of our most pressing questions. Building a platform to connect with each other and share each other’s ideas can dramatically transform the world we live in.“, said J.uliette neu, Executive Vice President and CXO – Mangata Networks. “Our goal is to develop an organization that uses space and earth systems to connect and leverage our unique potential, wherever we are..”

“Mangata is founded by a dream team that basically designed and implemented the O3b and OneWeb NGSO satellite constellations,” noted Jory Bell, General Partner of Playground Global. “The Mangata system represents a “golden loop” architecture that delivers the best of GEO and LEO offerings with a highly configurable modern HEO/MEO constellation that can be built incrementally while generating real revenue from day one of first deployment. We are thrilled to be able to lead an international team of investors in partnership with Brian and his team as they build the world’s best integrated space-based communications and data network..”
